make better videos
a simple guide to help you achieve better results
if you’re not finding success with content, you need to pinpoint exactly what the problem or problemS may be.
it will either fall in one of the three categories :
editing
filming
storytelling
depending on your skill level and what your trying to achieve, these will vary from person to person. But the first step is to identify your weakest point within the process of making a video
I cannot help you identify your weak points, you should instinctively know what they are. If you cannot identify one from the three categories then just focus on all three.
Work on your pacing when it comes to editing, this is the biggest issue I see. Wasting time and dragging out clips that have no value to them because “it looks nice” understand we live a short attention span era. Don’t have a video full of quick cuts but instead try to have a balanced pacing that doesn’t make the viewer feel like they’re wasting time while watching your video. I call this “get to the point”
Filming clear shots that capture the idea, character, or subject. Capture shots that would make sense following a narrative. Our shots should be still and easy to conceptualize, make it easy to look at. Record based off of the feeling, if your trying to reveal information that is important to the viewer to help them understand the idea of the video, maintain a steady shot. If you’re trying to make the viewer feel included into the environment like a vlog, let the camera naturally shake as you hold it throughout busy times of the day. If you want the video to feel fast move the camera fast as you track the movement of a character or subject.
Finally! storytelling is key, watch movies, read books and expose yourself to stories. Practice writing quick stories that deliver information to help the story unfold. In turn this will give you a better idea of recording shots that deliver information to help the video unfold. Then editing it with a nice pacing will complete it all.
This is a very basic idea of improving your content. Obviously there is way more to it, but now you know what to focus on instead of trying to learn about “viral hacks” and “strategies”
learn to tell stories, learn to edit with good pacing, and learn to film clear shots that help the viewer understand the idea of the video.
pay attention to how good stories reveal information throughout the timeline.
that’s all a good video is suppose to do… reveal information that gives the viewer enough to conceptualize the transformation of the character or subject and more clarity on the idea of the video.
btw the character could be you or anyone you include into your video
the subject is anything other than the characters, so it could be an object, an activity, or a scene
and the idea is just the the idea lol
