video breakdown

"how do you make your videos?"

Never ending loop

the idea of the video wasn’t clear when I started recording, actually the entire video and every video I make never has a real concrete idea behind it. No script, just record a hook and build it from there. I find this easier and way more fun because in a way i’m experiencing what the viewer is feeling… “what’s about to happen next?”

lol I don’t even know about to happen next

the “hook”

My camera was set up on this small rig arm clamp, basically you can clamp it into unique angles. I used it in this shot because if the camera was on a regular tripod then it wouldn’t be able to achieve this angle and capture the mirror and my clone closing the mirror (standing behind the mirror) btw pay attention to the posture of me in the mirror.

dialogue

I use 2 different colors in my captions to emphasize 2 different characters. Yellow font on screen when one character is talking then White font when the other character is talking.

The dialogue is about me calling myself a bitch because I have been slacking with posting consistently, in reality this dialogue is going on inside on my head. This shot represents all of our own self doubts or thoughts about ourselves. Whenever we think about our decisions, we are “talking to ourselves” in a way. Questioning “why did I do that?” or “I should’ve done this instead” this is what that shot is capturing

1 continuous shot, I made sure nothing on the table moved except for myself and in post (editing) I would throw a masking tool onto the clip, cut it right down the middle to merge the 2 characters into the same scene.

the idea

This shot emphasizes the idea of the video which is “never-ending loop”

I’m talking about how I am consistently working and it feels like a never ending loop but when we zoom out the entire video is a loop, it’s like the entire video is foreshadowing itself!

the “loop”

the last shot and first shot of the video bleed into each other seamlessly. They call this “continuity” is the film making industry. I’m no film maker but I like watching movies and studying them. When you’re storytelling with visual shots, consistent scenes need to bleed into each other so it flows nicely. I don’t think to literal on this, I just make sure to position my body posture so that it matches in 2 different shots and maintains the scene.

You can’t hear it because these are still images but I chopped the rocky theme song being played in the beginning of the video to play in the last clip. It adds on top of continuity because when the video replays, the music is the bridge between the 2 clips that “loop” the video.

but yeah that’s it.

my style is very dirty and all over the place. just press record and let it fly

watch my video on instagram and you’ll notice everything I breakdown

go make some cool shit !
